Merian Global Investors (MGI) has today announced four senior hires for its new Dublin office, which opens on 21 October 2019.

The new team has over 60 years’ of combined professional experience, with considerable expertise in the international investment management industry. The appointments are:

  • Paul Nunan as country head, Ireland, joining from Link Fund Solutions Ireland on 21 October 2019. He will report to MGI’s chief operating officer, Nicola Stronach.
  • Geraldine Gleeson as financial controller, joining from KPMG Ireland on 21 October 2019.
  • Shane O’Donovan as head of compliance and enterprise risk, transferring from MGI’s Hong Kong office on 28 October 2019.
  • Ross Allan as senior investment risk manager, joining from Legal and General Investment Management on 26 November 2019.

Geraldine, Shane and Ross will report to Paul Nunan.

The office, which is situated in Merrion Square, central Dublin, will be the registered premise for MGI’s newly appointed UCITS management company and alternative investment fund manager, Merian Global Investors (Europe) Limited (MGIEL). The appointment of MGIEL will take effect from 31 October 2019 and ensures that, post-Brexit, MGI can continue to market its Irish-domiciled funds within the European Economic Area.

Working closely with the wider MGI business, initially the Dublin-based team will be responsible for overseeing MGIEL business development. This includes supervision of operations, finances, distribution, compliance, risk and governance of the firm’s Irish fund range, Merian Global Investors Series plc. With senior management now in place, MGI will look to make further Dublin-based appointments and it is anticipated that MGIEL will be appointed as the alternative investment fund manager to MGI’s alternative investment funds in due course.

Mark Gregory, CEO, Merian Global Investors comments:

“The opening of our Dublin office is a major milestone for Merian Global Investors and I’m thrilled that we’ve recruited such a high quality team. MGI continues to be a destination for top industry talent and the team’s expertise will help ensure our European clients experience a smooth transition to a post-Brexit operating environment.”

Warren Tonkinson, managing director of distribution, Merian Global Investors adds:

“Europe is a core market for Merian Global Investors and we are committed to growing assets in the region. The establishment of our Irish management company, and the recruitment of a highly skilled team, allows us to minimise the impact of a potentially disorderly Brexit on our marketing and distribution efforts.”
