Amadeo joined Merian Global Investors in 2005 and is a fund manager and head of research in the global equity team. Prior to joining MGI, he developed simulation models for systemic and liquidity risk for the Financial Stability Group at the Bank of England, and worked as a software developer for CAD systems and for robotic applications. He holds a BEng in robotics from the University of Plymouth, an MSc in computer science, and a PhD in computational finance from the University of Essex. He is a CFA charterholder.
Dan joined MGI in 2001 and leads the Merian UK small- and mid-cap team. Dan’s involvement with smaller companies began in specialist sales at Albert E Sharp from September 1995. He switched from the sell side to the buy side in May 1997, working on the Albert E Sharp Smaller Companies Fund. After graduating from the University of Cambridge in 1992 with a degree in modern and medieval languages, he joined Deloitte & Touche, before moving to the European equities division of Morgan Stanley in June 1994. He is IIMR qualified.
Deepa Abraham joined MGI as a credit analyst in August 2013, and was appointed co-manager of the Merian Global Investors Monthly Income High Yield Bond Fund in July 2017. She joined MGI from Alpstar Capital, where she was a credit analyst working on CLO and high yield funds. She was previously a portfolio manager at LNG Capital. Since 2001, she has been a credit analyst or portfolio manager covering various sectors over a number of credit cycles. Deepa has an MBA in finance and strategy from London Business School, a Masters in finance from X.L.R.I. Jamshedpur and a B.Tech in chemical engineering from Andhra University College of Engineering.
Ed joined MGI in 2013 and is a research analyst and deputy fund manager for the Merian UK Alpha Fund. He joined from Schroders Investment Management where he had been an equity analyst and fund manager since 2006. Prior to joining Schroders, he worked as a fund manager for BAE Systems Pension Fund from 2002. Ed’s investment career commenced at Fletcher Advisory in 2000 where he was a technology/strategic consultant. He is a CFA charterholder and holds an MA in classics from the University of Oxford.
Errol joined MGI in 2013 and is a fund manager for the Merian Global Investors UK Alpha Fund. He joined from Schroders Investment Management where he had been a fund manager since January 2007. Previously he was at Credit Suisse Asset Management from January 2004. He began his investment career in 1988 at Baring Asset Management as an analyst and subsequently as a UK equity fund manager. Errol is an associate of the Institute of Investment Management and Research.
Huw brings over 23 years of fixed income investment experience to Merian Global Investors. He came to MGI from Ignis Asset Management (SLI) which he joined in early 2014 as a Fixed Income Product Specialist. Prior to joining Ignis, Huw spent the four years between 2010-2014 working at Citi as Director, UK RM Interest Rate Sales and five years at JP Morgan Chase as Executive Director, Interest rate sales from 2005-2010. During his sales career he covered a range of clients, advising Pension Funds, LDI managers, Insurance companies and absolute return funds. Prior to 2005, Huw worked in roles that covered UK and European Bond Sales roles at Royal Bank of Scotland, UBS, Barclays Capital and Sanwa International.
Ian joined MGI in 2000 and is head of global equities at Merian Global Investors. He manages a range of hedge and retail funds and segregated mandates, including market neutral and long only funds. Ian boasts more than 18 years of investment experience and the team has won numerous awards for its funds. Prior to joining MGI, Ian was a UK quantitative fund manager at Barclays Global Investors. He holds an MA in chemistry from the University of Oxford and a PhD in medicinal chemistry, University of Edinburgh. He is an associate of the Society of Investment Professionals.
Ian joined Merian Global Investors in 2014 and manages the Merian European (ex Uk) Smaller Companies Fund. He previously worked for Ignis Asset Management, where he was lead manager on the Ignis European Smaller Companies Fund and the Ignis European Growth Fund. Ian began his career with Asahi Life Investment Europe in 1994 before moving to Singer and Friedlander in 2000. He graduated from the London School of Economics in 1994 with an MA in economic history, having completed a BSc in 1993.
John joined Merian Global Investors in 2006. He is a portfolio manager focusing on developing and launching new systematic alternatives strategies. Prior to joining MGI, he held senior positions in the proprietary trading groups of a number of major European banks including Kleinwort Benson, UBS and HSBC, and was a fund manager at two leading hedge funds. At Old MGI he initiated and was co-manager on the European Statistical Arbitrage fund (launched 2006) and Global Statistical Arbitrage fund (launched 2007). John is a specialist in statistical arbitrage trading, has designed and implemented automated trading strategies, and has extensive knowledge of algorithmic trading and execution. He has a BSc in physics from the University of Sussex and an MBA in finance from Cass Business School.
Lloyd joined Merian Global Investors in 2012 as a senior credit analyst focusing on the financial sector, before being appointed lead manager of the Merian Corporate Bond Fund in 2015. Prior to joining MGI Lloyd was at Cutwater Asset Management, initially as an asset-backed CP/MTN trader, then as a European financials credit analyst. Before this, Lloyd worked in structured capital markets at Deutsche Bank. Lloyd graduated from the University of Bristol with a BA (hons) in electronics and telecommunications engineering.
Luke joined MGI in 2001 and manages the Merian UK Dynamic Equity Fund and Merian UK Specialist Equity Fund as part of Merian Global Investors’ highly-rated and multi-award winning UK mid and small cap team. He was previously a consultant at Arthur Andersen. Luke has a BA in chemistry from the University of Oxford, is ACA qualified and is a CFA charterholder.
Mark Greenwood joined Merian Global Investors in 2015. He spent the previous 10 years as a trader on the inflation desks at Barclays and RBS, latterly as managing director responsible for inflation options and exotics in all currencies. Before this he managed the inflation desk at Rand Merchant Bank in South Africa, from the time of the first domestic inflation bond issue in March 2000 until his relocation to the UK in 2004. He began his career as underwriting actuary with Swiss Re in South Africa. Mark holds an MSc in statistics from the University of the Witwatersrand, the FRM designation from the Global Association of Risk Professionals and is a fellow of the UK Institute of Actuaries.
Mark joined Merian Global Investors in June 2016 and is head of fixed income. Mark is lead manager of the Merian Strategic Bond Fund. He previously worked at Invesco Asset Management since 2001, most recently as head of global multi-sector portfolio management and head of European fixed income strategy.
Mike joined Merian Global Investors in 2004 and co-manages a range of funds within the Merian Global Investors (MGI) global equity team. He joined from Barra International where he was a senior consultant specialising in the implementation of multi asset-class risk systems. Prior to this he spent five years with COR Risk Solutions, which developed the optimisation, back-testing and modelling software currently used by the global equity team at MGI. Mike has an MA in physics from the University of Oxford.
Ned joined Merian Global Investors in 2015 and manages the Merian Gold & Silver Fund. He is a well-known figure in the world of gold and silver investing, having over 17 years’ investment experience. He joined from Quilter Cheviot, having founded a dedicated precious metals fund for Cheviot Asset Management in January 2009, investing in gold, silver and the underlying equities. He previously worked for Smith & Williamson. Ned has a BA (Hons) in Spanish from the University of Bristol.
Nick Payne joined the company in June 2017 as head of global emerging markets. He previously worked at Nomura Asset Management from 2014. In 2015 he was appointed head of emerging and frontier equities at Nomura, as well as taking on lead management responsibilities on the Nomura Global Emerging Markets Equity Fund. Nick started his career as a graduate trainee at Kleinwort Benson in 1996, where he went on to become an analyst, then portfolio manager in the emerging markets team. In 1999 he joined Rexiter Capital Management as director, head of Latin America. He has over 20 years’ experience in emerging and frontier market equity management.
Nick has worked at MGI since 2008, covering a variety of sectors for the wider UK equities team. Prior to his appointment as manager of the Merian UK Smaller Companies Focus Fund, Nick acted as deputy manager on both the onshore and offshore UK smaller companies funds, since January 2014. Before this he was a sell-side analyst for more than 10 years, with a broad range of analytical responsibilities, most recently at Citigroup.
Richard joined Merian Global Investors as head of UK equities in June 2013, and was appointed as chief executive in August 2015. He was previously at Schroders, where he managed the Schroder UK Alpha Plus Fund for over 10 years. Prior to Schroders he spent more than a decade at Baring Asset Management, having commenced his investment career in 1985 at Brown Shipley Asset Management. Richard was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Industry honour at the Morningstar OBSR Awards in 2012 and has a degree in English language and literature from the University of Oxford.
Richard joined Merian Global Investors in 2002 and manages the Merian UK Mid Cap Fund. He initially joined the UK mid- and small-cap team as an analyst before assuming full portfolio management responsibilities in 2009. He joined from Orbis Investment Advisory where he spent two years as an equity analyst, before which he was a senior associate in the investment management division of PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Richard has a degree in mathematical sciences from the University of Oxford, is IIMR qualified and is a CFA charterholder.
Simon joined Merian Global Investors in 2008 and is head of the Merian Global Investors Investors UK large cap equity team. He joined from M&G Investments where he worked for almost 10 years, spending the last three as the manager of the M&G UK Growth Fund. Prior to M&G, he worked for Price Waterhouse where he qualified as a chartered accountant and specialised in corporate taxation. Simon has a BSc in economics from Loughborough University and an MSc in economics & finance from the University of Warwick.
Tim joined Merian Global Investors in 2007 and manages the Merian UK Specialist Equity Fund. He joined from JP Morgan, where he was an analyst covering the European food producers and home and personal care sectors. Prior to this he was an analyst at ABN Amro, covering the food retail sector. Tim has a BA in modern history from the University of Oxford and is a CFA charterholder.
Mark was appointed chief executive officer in March 2019, having originally joined the firm’s board in October 2018 as an independent non-executive director. He has extensive experience in the financial services sector, including 19 years at Legal & General Group plc, with the last four years as its chief financial officer. He is also a non-executive director at Direct Line Insurance Group plc. He started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and has a degree in maths and physics from King’s College London.
Warren joined Merian Global Investors in 2012 as head of distribution for Skandia Investment Group before transferring to Merian Global Investors. In August 2015 he was appointed as managing director. He has over 17 years of retail and wholesale sales experience, spending 13 years working in the asset management industry. Previously, Warren spent nearly 10 years at UBS Global Asset Management, where he was managing director, and in a variety of roles at Fidelity and Prudential.
Karen joined Merian in 1999, and is responsible for creating, implementing and driving forward the firm’s people strategy. She has 20 years’ experience in Human Resources having specialized in organisational development, culture and talent acquisition. Karen received her HR Degree from the University of Middlesex and is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development.
Jessica joined the Merian Global Investors in 2009, first as a funds lawyer for Skandia Investment Group, then as Head of Legal for Skandia Investment Group and then as Head of Legal for Merian Global Investors. She was promoted to the role of Chief Risk Officer in January 2014 and is responsible for the legal, compliance, enterprise risk and governance functions. Jessica previously worked at Dechert LLP where she advised on the structuring, establishment, listing, management and marketing of investment funds, including UCITS funds and non-UCITS fund as well as advising on corporate, regulatory and general compliance issues. She holds a B.A. from Barnard College, Columbia University and a J.D. from the Washington College of Law, American University. She is a Member of the New York State Bar, New Jersey State Bar and admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.
Simon joined Merian Global Investors as Chief Technology Officer in 2014 to lead the development of the IT capability. Prior to this Simon spent 7 years at Investit, a consultancy focused on the investment industry where he ran their IT benchmark practice. Simon has over 20 years in the investment industry and previous roles include nearly 9 years at Henderson Global Investors where he was Global Director of IT and before that a variety of roles at Credit Suisse.
Fred Calitz joined Merian Global Investors in June 2018 as finance director and became interim chief financial officer in October 2019. Fred has considerable experience in the investments industry, having spent more than five years in senior finance positions for Tilney Group and seven years in the private wealth management arm of Morgan Stanley. He started his career at Deloitte South Africa in 2001. A chartered accountant, he has an honours degree in accounting from the University of Stellenbosch.
Nicola has over 20 years of experience within asset management, having spent 15 years at Credit Suisse Asset Management, as director of global investment operations and five years at Bank of New York Mellon, where she was managing director within the asset servicing division. She joined Merian Global Investors in 2016 as chief administration officer before her role was extended to chief operating officer.
